HAWAIIAN HONU or TURTLE
There
are three species of sea turtles native to the Hawaiian Islands: the Green, the
Hawksbill, and the Leatherback. These fascinating creatures have played
important roles in the culture. Their lives are so intertwined with
Hawaiiana that most families claim the "honu" as their
"aina". Among the several sites "turtle
trax" is one of our favorite for information about the sea turtle and
if you are ever in Waikiki, please visit the Sheraton
Waikiki Hotel where our friend has designed a walking tour through the hotel
that is literally filled with sea turtles.
You can see how Sara Yogi's panorama project for school
with some of our ceramic honus came out. We think she did a wonderful job!
